General

The degrees lead to a university of applied sciences Bachelor’s degree in Engineering allowing graduates to use the title Engineer (UAS). The studies are worth 210 credits and take approx.4 years to complete.

GENERIC COMPETENCES

The general objective of the degrees is:

1)to provide basic knowledge of the principles of operation and structures of the devices, systems and methods used within the field of each major subject (specialisation) of the degrees as well as of design, implementation and maintenance processes.

2)To develop the ability to apply knowledge acquired through the studies so that graduates are able to work independently, with initiative and cooperatively after a short period of work experience in the field of engineering.

3)To provide basic knowledge and proficiency in production economics, human resource, international cooperation and environmental protection issues required in marketing, administration and management posts.

4)To provide the abilities required to continue with further education.

The engineering degree provides students with competence needed in engineering operation and maintenance planning, management and expert positions, as well as entrepreneurship. The degree should also create an overall vision of technology based on which it is possible to make decisions and work responsibly taking into account economy, labour, environmental protection, the sustainable use of energy, as well as the requirements of society.

Specific Information

All the engineering degrees include differentiated instruction for first year students in mathematics, physics and English based on previous academic achievement. These courses review the theory of the mathematical tools needed in studying engineering and include practical physics and mathematics exercises. The English course provides students with the ability to read and follow engineering literature etc.

Special training provided by the army is accepted for accreditation where applicable in free-choice studies.

The degree focuses specifically on building production, renovating and long-term facility maintenance planning. The joint professional studies provide comprehensive basic competence in different areas of construction engineering. In the specialised studies the students deepen their expertise in production engineering, facility management and wood construction.

Annual Themes – Study Progress Description

1ST yr. Engineering orientation
The students recognise and understand the fundamental factors of building production and facility management and acquire the information and skills to become proficient in these areas.

2nd yr. In-depth knowledge
The students learn to apply technical economic thinking to real buildings and develop their communication and teamwork skills.

3rd yr. Specialisation
The students acquire specialised competence in a specific area and learn to apply previously acquired
knowledge in practice.

4th yr. Finalising expertise
Students deepen and apply an independent, responsible and multidisciplinary approach to a practical problem and acquire experience in management and work requiring special expertise.

Generic Working Life Skills or Competences

Koulutuksien yleisenä tavoitteena on:

1) antaa perustiedot kyseessä olevan suuntautumisvaihtoehdon mukaisella alalla käytettävien laitteiden, järjestelmien ja menetelmien toimintaperiaatteista ja rakenteista sekä suunnittelun, toteutuksen ja kunnossa-pidon menetelmistä.

2) kehittää taitoa soveltaa opintoja siten, että henkilö pystyy lyhyen työkokemuksen jälkeen itsenäisesti, oma-aloitteisesti ja yhteistyökykyisesti hoitamaan alan tehtäviä.

3) antaa markkinointi-, hallinto- ja johtotehtäviin tarvittavat tuotantotalouden, henkilöstöasiain, kansain-välisen yhteistyön ja ympäristönsuojelun perustiedot.

4) luoda edellytykset alan jatko- ja täydennyskoulutukseen osallistumiselle.

Opiskelijat saavat koulutuksissa valmiudet alan käyttö- ja ylläpitosuunnittelu-, johtamis- ja asian-tuntijatehtäviin sekä yrittäjyyteen. Koulutuksen tulee lisäksi luoda teknillinen kokonaisnäkemys, jonka pohjalta insinööri osaa tehdä päätöksiä ja ottaa vastuuta taloudellisuuden, työvoiman, ympäristönsuojelun, energian taloudellisen käytön sekä yhteiskunnan vaatimukset huomioon ottaen.
