Objective

The Polytechnic Act defines practical training as a part of university of applied sciences studies and accordingly the aim of practical training is to provide students with a supervised induction specifically in the practical tasks central to their professional studies and in the practical application of their thus acquired knowledge and skills in working life. The aim of the practical training period is to support the students in developing their professional knowledge, practical working life and personal skills. The students can accomplish practical training either in Finland or abroad in a working environment linked to their field of study.

Qualifications

Basic studies completed and a sufficient amount of professional studies, at least 105 credits in total. Participation in the practical training information sessions.

Assessment criteria, approved/failed

Pass:
The students are able to search for a practical training place in Finland or abroad supporting their studies and professional development. They participate in practical training information sessions, compile a goal-oriented practical training plan and submit a signed practical training agreement to the practical training coordinator. They are able to independently examine the organisation, how things operate, different tasks and the services offered at their practical training place. They are able to complete various jobs within their practical training place using knowledge acquired during their basic and professional studies. They recognise the significance of different tasks within the organisation. The students complete a practical training assignment and participate in the thesis seminar. The students are able to reflect upon their professional development and the significance of their studies. They keep diaries and compile a practical training report as instructed and participate in the feedback seminar assessing their practical training period.
