Objective

During this course students will develop their jumping, running and throwing skills as well as their knowledge of the rules, equipment and central forms of athletics. The connection between athletics and other sports will be examined and students will also become familiar with speed and strength training. They will also develop motor skills and gain the necessary know-how for sports instruction.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

Has mastered the techniques of the various forms of athletics and performs them rhythmically and smoothly. Recognises the biomechanic core points of the techniques and can teach them using a detailed understanding of the methodology of teaching sports techniques. They know the physical demands of world-class athletics. The students are also proficient in the basics of special forms of athletics and can do them consistently.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

Has mastery of the core points of athletics techniques and can perform these techniques though needing to develop more rhythm and fluency. They can recognise the core biomechanic points and are proficient in the basic methodology of teaching athletics techniques. They know the physical demands of world-class athletics. They are proficient in the basics of special forms of athletics but their technique clearly lacks control.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

The students have mastered the key points of athletics techniques but there are clear deficiencies in their rhythm and fluency of movement. They are aware of core bimechanic points but are not always able to recognise them. They are proficient in the basic methodology of teaching technique and know the physical demands of world-class athletics. They recognise the basics of special forms of athletics but are unable to perform them.
