Sairaanhoitajakoulutus johtaa sairaanhoitaja (AMK) -tutkintoon. Koulutus täyttää terveydenhuollon ammattihenkilöistä annetun lain ja asetuksen sekä Euroopan parlamentin ja neuvoston direktiivin 2013/55/EU ammattipätevyyden tunnustamiselle asettamat vaatimukset. Direktiivin mukaan yleissairaanhoidosta vastaavan sairaanhoitajan koulutuksen pituuden tulee olla vähintään kolme vuotta ja sisältää vähintään 4600 tuntia (180 op) teoreettista ja kliinistä opetusta, josta teoreettisen opetuksen osuuden on oltava vähintään kolmasosa ja kliinisen opetuksen osuuden vähintään puolet koulutuksen vähimmäiskestosta.

Suomalainen sairaanhoitajakoulutus (210 op) sisältää lisäksi 30 op hoitotyön opintoja, joilla syvennetään ja laajennetaan osaamista työelämälähtöisesti alueen tarpeen ja ammattikorkeakoulun profiilin mukaisesti.

Sairaanhoitajakoulutuksen opetussuunnitelman perustana toimivat työelämän osaamisvaatimuksista johdetut laajat osaamisalueet eli kompetenssit ja niihin liittyvät osaamistavoitteet arviointikriteereineen. Kompetenssit jakautuvat kaikille koulutuksille yhteisiin yleisiin työelämäkompetensseihin (Arene ry) sekä valtakunnallisesti yhtenäisiin koulutuskohtaisiin kompetensseihin (Eriksson ym. 2015, yleSharviointi 2019).

Yhteiset kompetenssit ovat eri koulutuksille yleisiä työelämän osaamisalueita, mutta niiden erityispiirteet ja tärkeys vaihtelevat eri ammateissa ja työtehtävissä. Yhteiset kompetenssit luovat perustan työelämässä toimimiselle, yhteistyölle ja asiantuntijuuden kehittymiselle. Yhteisiä kompetensseja ovat oppimisen taidot, eettinen osaaminen, työyhteisöosaaminen, innovaatio-osaaminen sekä kansainvälistymisosaaminen. Yhteisten kompetenssien arviointi toteutuu koulutuskohtaisten kompetenssien arvioinnin yhteydessä.

Sairaanhoitajakoulutuksen alakohtaiset kompetenssit pohjautuvat Sairaanhoitajakoulutuksen tulevaisuus -hankkeen tuloksiin (Eriksson ym. 2015). Alakohtaiset kompetenssit on päivitetty yleSHarviointi -hankkeessa vuonna 2019 (Liite).

Kompetenssit ovat:
1. Ammatillisuus ja eettisyys, 2. Asiakaslähtöisyys, 3. Kommunikointi ja moniammatillisuus, 4. Terveyden edistäminen, 5. Johtaminen ja työntekijyysosaaminen, 6. Informaatioteknologia ja kirjaaminen, 7. Ohjaus- ja opetusosaaminen sekä omahoidon tukeminen, 8. Kliininen hoitotyö, 9. Näyttöön perustuva toiminta, tutkimustiedon hyödyntäminen ja päätöksenteko, 10. Yrittäjyys ja kehittäminen, 11. Laadun varmistus, 12. Sosiaali- ja terveydenhuollon palvelujärjestelmä ja 13. Potilas- ja asiakasturvallisuus.

Kansainvälisyys toteutuu opetussuunnitelman läpäisevänä jatkumona vieraskielisen lähdemateriaalin hyödyntämisenä opetuksessa sekä kieliopintoina. Englanninkielistä opetusta toteuttavat myös kansainvälisessä asiantuntijavaihdossa olevat yhteistyökumppaneiden opettajat. Lisäksi opiskelijat osallistuvat kansainväliseen vaihtoon ja myös erilaisiin kotikansainvälistymistä tukeviin tilaisuuksiin ja tapahtumiin sekä kansainvälisten opiskelijoiden tutorointiin. Kansainvälistymistavoitteiden saavuttamiseksi kotikansainvälistäminen on osa opintoja ja opiskelijalla on mahdollisuus vähintään kolmen kuukauden vaihto-opiskeluun ulkomailla.

Sairaanhoitajakoulutuksen rakenne:
1) perus- ja ammattiopinnot 115 op sisältäen tutkimus-, kehittämis- ja innovaatiomenetelmät 5 op
2) vapaasti valittavat opinnot 5 op
3) ammattitaitoa edistävä harjoittelu 90 op sisältäen opinnäytetyön 15 op ja kypsyysnäytteen

Perus- ja ammattiopintojen tavoitteena on, että opiskelija oppii laaja-alaiset käytännölliset perustiedot ja -taidot sekä teoreettiset perusteet toimia työelämässä sairaanhoitotyön asiantuntijatehtävissä tai yrittäjänä sekä saa edellytykset oman ammattitaidon kehittämiseen ja elinikäiseen oppimiseen. Sairaanhoitajan koulutuksessa opiskelija voi suunnata osaamistaan jollakin hoitotyön alalla viimeisen lukukauden aikana.
Opintojen tavoitteena on myös, että opiskelija hallitsee ammattikorkeakouluasetuksessa (1129/2014, 7§) vaadittavan kielitaidon, joka ilmoitetaan tutkintotodistuksessa. Kielitaitoa merkittäessä otetaan huomioon mitä valtioneuvoston asetuksessa (481/2003) 15§-19§ :ssä säädetään. Englannin kieliopinnot on opetussuunnitelmassa kahdella opintojaksolla, joissa kielen oppimista arvioidaan. Ruotsin kieliopinnot toteutetaan yhdellä opintojaksolla. Suomen kielen viestintäosaaminen kehittyy koko koulutuksen ajan ja sitä arvioidaan vuosittain eri opintojaksoissa (kompetenssimatriisi).

Vapaasti valittavien opintojen tavoitteena on syventää ja täydentää ammatillista osaamista. Vapaasti valittavia opintoja voi toteutua hankkeissa, projektiopinnoissa ja innovaatiotoiminnassa. Vapaasti valittaviin opintoihin voidaan sisällyttää muiden koulutuksien ja muiden korkeakoulujen opintosuorituksia.

Ammattitaitoa edistävän harjoittelun tavoitteena on perehdyttää opiskelija ohjatusti erityisesti ammattiopintojen kannalta keskeisiin käytännön työtehtäviin sekä tietojen ja taitojen soveltamiseen työelämässä. Ammattitaitoa edistävä harjoittelu toteutuu sairaanhoitajan tutkinnossa 90 opintopisteen laajuisena.

Opintojensa aikana opiskelija tekee työelämän toimeksiantaman opinnäytetyön. Opinnäytetyön tavoitteena on kehittää valmiuksia soveltaa tietoja ja taitoja ammattiopintoihin liittyvässä käytännön asiantuntijatehtävässä. Opinnäytetyön toteutuksessa on mahdollisuus monialaiseen ja koulutuksien väliseen yhteistyöhön.

Opetussuunnitelmassa opiskelijan oppimisprosessi kuvataan opiskelijan ammatillisena kasvuna perehtyjästä kehittäjäksi. Opetussuunnitelma rakentuu lukukausien mukaisista opintojaksoista ja teemoista. Opintojaksojen osaamistavoitteet ja teemojen sisällöt kuvaavat alan keskeisen ammatillisen ydinosaamisen. Vuosi- ja lukukausiteemat kokoavat opintoja ammatillisen kasvun etenemisen näkökulmasta.

1. vuosikurssi Hoitotyöhön perehtyjä
Opiskelija perehtyy hoitotyön perusteisiin ja sosiaali- ja terveydenhuollon palvelujärjestelmään sekä ymmärtää eettisyyden ja monitieteellisen tiedon merkityksen ammatillisen osaamisen lähtökohtana.

2. vuosikurssi Kliinisen hoitotyön osaaja
Opiskelija pystyy ohjattuna suunnittelemaan, toteuttamaan ja arvioimaan asiakkaan/ potilaan kokonaishoitoa yhdessä asiakkaan/potilaan ja hänen läheistensä kanssa hoitotyön arvojen ja periaatteiden ohjaamana. Opiskelija laajentaa hoitotyössä tarvittavaa monitieteellistä tietoperustaa.

3. vuosikurssi Hoitotyön soveltaja
Opiskelija toimii asiakaslähtöisesti kehittävän työotteen mukaisesti näyttöön perustuvassa hoitotyössä ja terveydenedistämisessä yksilö-, perhe-, ryhmä- ja yhteisötasolla.

4. vuosikurssi Hoitotyön kehittäjä
Opiskelijan ammatillista päätöksentekoa ohjaa monitieteinen tietoperusta ja hän kykenee kehittämään näyttöön perustuvaa hoitotyötä. Opiskelija ymmärtää vastuunsa itsensä ja alan kehittämisessä sekä moniammatillisissa ja – alaisissa yhteisöissä. Opiskelija käyttää paikallisen päätöksenteon vaikuttamiskanavia väestön terveydenedistämisessä.
