Objective
The student understands how legislation guides the implementation of care and rehabilitation services for individuals with intellectual disabilities and other disabilities within social and healthcare service systems.
The student understands what intellectual disability is and how it differs from other disabilities. The student is able to apply patient- and client-centered methods in the guidance, care, and rehabilitation work for individuals with intellectual and other disabilities

Act on Developmental Disabilities, Special Care Act and Disability Services Act, Social Welfare Act: service network
The most common developmental disabilities and their manifestations.
Disability
Assessment and support of the functional capacity of people with developmental disabilities and people with disabilities: service plan.
Developmental disability and disability in society: equality, discrimination, accessibility, self-determination and restraints in the care and rehabilitation of people with developmental disabilities and people with other disabilities.
The use of various aids and technologies in the care and rehabilitation of people with hearing and visual impairments.
Multidisciplinary cooperation in the care and rehabilitation of people with intellectual disabilities and people with other disabilities from different cultures.
Assessment criteria, approved/failed
Pass:
The student can describe the significance of legislation guiding health and social services for individuals with intellectual and other disabilities in service counseling and can describe the rights that people with intellectual and other disabilities have in society.
The student knows the health and well-being issues that intellectual and other disabilities can bring and can apply a service counseling approach and use various aids and nursing measures in the guidance, care, and rehabilitation of individuals with intellectual and other disabilities.
The student can act as a support person and consultative support in health and social services for individuals with intellectual and other disabilities.
The student can use professional terms consistently and can seek information and evaluate the sources used to describe their expertise.
Fail:
The student cannot explain and connect the significance of legislation for individuals with intellectual and other disabilities in service counseling and the importance of legislation in realizing the rights of individuals with intellectual and other disabilities in society.
The student cannot apply service counseling methods and uses inappropriate aids and nursing measures in the guidance, care, and rehabilitation of individuals with intellectual and other disabilities.
The student lacks the knowledge to support individuals with intellectual and other disabilities in health and social services.
The student uses professional terms related to intellectual and other disabilities inconsistently and with incorrect terms, and the use of information sources is not based on evidence and researched information.
