Osaamistavoitteet

The student:
Understands the ethical, legal, and multidisciplinary foundations of gerontological nursing and home care services.
Recognises the service structure, national strategies, and age-friendly service models guiding care for older adults in Finland.
Is familiar with the physiological, psychological, and social changes associated with healthy aging and understands how to promote active aging.
Plans, implements, and evaluates client-centred, rehabilitative, pharmacological and multidisciplinary team collaboration.
Understands common geriatric diseases and applies preventive and therapeutic nursing methods in their care.
Supports the health, nutrition, and functional capacity of older adults in accordance with national guidelines.
Utilises digital tools and age-related technology in gerontological nursing and supports clients in accessing digital services.
Familiarizes with the purpose and use of assessment tools such as the RAI system in planning and evaluating care

The student interprets clients' service needs using the RAI system. Can apply evidence-based knowledge of geriatric diseases in person-centered elderly care.
Can assess and apply health-promoting methods in elderly care while supporting the elderly person's autonomy and participation in various environments.
Can develop methods to promote the adoption of technology related to elderly living, communication, health monitoring, and service support.
Can evaluate the overall medication management of the elderly and demonstrate proficiency in the nursing role within the medication process.
Can develop solutions for the specific challenges in basic elderly care, such as oral and foot care.

Skills:
The student can apply the legislation, strategies, and recommendations guiding elderly services when assessing the age-friendliness of service structures.
Can apply evidence-based knowledge of the physical, psychological, social, and cognitive functional capacity of the elderly and the risk factors to plan rehabilitative nursing care in a multidisciplinary manner.

The student can analyze, reflect on, and critically evaluate their own proficiency in elderly care.

Can list technologies for living and communication, as well as technologies used for monitoring health status and providing services.
Is aware of the special features of medication management for the elderly and can describe the nurse's tasks in the medication management process.
Can identify the special challenges of basic care for the elderly, such as oral and foot care.
