Objective

The student:
•Understands the principles, ethics, and Finnish legal framework of health promotion and disease prevention.
•Is familiar with national and municipal strategies and programs that support health and well-being.
•Recognises the impact of lifestyle factors such as physical activity, nutrition, and substance use on health.
•Understands the basics of sexual health, including sexual rights, concepts of diversity, and the specific needs of sexual minorities and individuals with disabilities.
•Can address and discuss sexuality and reproductive health topics in a respectful professional manner.
•Demonstrates basic vaccination competence and provides evidence-based information and support during vaccine-related client interactions.
•Uses evidence-based pedagogical methods to guide clients on health promotion and self-care.
•Selects and applies appropriate guidance methods (verbal, written, audiovisual, digital, and group-based) to promote health literacy, adherence, and behavioural change.

Health Promotion and Public Health
•Concepts, laws and principles of public health and health promotion
•Levels of prevention: primary, secondary, and tertiary prevention
•Ethics in health promotion
•Legislation and regulation related to health promotion in Finland
•National and municipal strategic programs for promoting health and well-being
•Lifestyle and health: the impact of physical activity, nutrition, substance use, and sedentary behaviour
Client Guidance and Health Education (1 ECTS)
•Evidence-based content for client counselling
•Pedagogical principles of health education
•Methods of guidance
•Supporting self-care, lifestyle change, and treatment adherence

Sexual and Reproductive Health
•Sexual rights and concepts of sexual
•Sexually transmitted infections (Prevention and care)
•Addressing and discussing sexuality in nursing care
•Inclusive care practices for sexual minorities and people with disabilities
Vaccination Competence
•Fundamentals of vaccination and immunisation principles
•National and international vaccination programs
•Safety, contraindications, and managing client concerns related to vaccines

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

The student:
Shows comprehensive mastery and integration of all course topics.
Applies principles, ethics, and legislation with critical insight and flexibility in varied contexts. Critically evaluates and utilises national/municipal strategies to support health outcomes. Analyses lifestyle factors using strong evidence-based reasoning.
Designs and delivers highly effective, inclusive, and adaptable client guidance using diverse methods.
Communicates about sexuality and reproductive health with exceptional professionalism, sensitivity, and inclusivity.
Performs vaccinations with full competence, confidently managing complex or challenging client situations.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

The student:
Demonstrates solid knowledge and understanding of course content.
Applies health promotion concepts, ethics, and relevant legislation appropriately in common situations.
Explains national/municipal strategies clearly and links them to practice.
Analyses lifestyle factors using relevant examples.
Provides client guidance using multiple evidence-based methods adapted to client needs. Communicates about sexuality and reproductive health respectfully, inclusively, and with confidence.
Demonstrates safe and accurate vaccination competence, addressing basic client concerns effectively.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

The student:
Meets only the basic course requirements.
Demonstrates limited but sufficient understanding of health promotion principles, ethics, and Finnish legal framework.
Can identify national and municipal strategies with minimal detail.
Recognises lifestyle factors affecting health but provides only simple explanations.
Client guidance and vaccination competence are basic and may lack adaptation to different clients.
Communication about sexuality and reproductive health is correct but hesitant and not always inclusive.
