The students will be aware of the public, private and third sector mental health and substance abuse services in the area and will gain further knowledge of the selected services through study visits.
The students will visit the open Alcoholics Anonymous group.
The students will be familiar with the special features of the work unit's patient safety policies and will know how to work with patients safely.

2. Clinical nursing, instruction and teaching competence, promoting health and physical and mental capability:
The students are able to interact with the client in a dialogical manner and use motivational discussion.
The students are able to utilize interventions that support the client's resources and self-care.
The students are able to describe psychiatric medication groups and identify the most common main and side effects of psychiatric medication.
The students will master the safest methods of administering medication.
The students will guide and instruct customers as required.

3. Evidence-based action and decision-making:
The students will survey the unit's needs in relation to evidence-based activities and will plan and implement a research-club event for members of staff based on the results of the survey.
The students will be able to document patient care in accordance with the national records keeping model.
