Objective
Students will gain a sound knowledge of concrete engineering, concrete work and the manufacture of concrete structures, the ingredients of concrete, freshly mixed concrete and hardened concrete and the factors affecting the properties of concrete. Students will learn concrete proportioning, how to choose the correct ingredients to make the desired concrete mix, how to mix concrete and test freshly mixed concrete and also trial use of concrete.
Content
The course consists of laboratory exercises, calculation drills and lectures. The laboratory exercises consist of practical exercises and lab reports. Dry aggregate tests, casting and related quality control tests and test piece trials will be carried out in the laboratory. Additionally the functioning of a reinforced steel concrete structure will be studied by test loading a beam.
Assessment criteria, excellent (5)
Opiskelija ymmärtää betonin osa-aineiden vaikutuksen betonin ominaisuuksiin ja osaa soveltaa saamaansa tietoa käytännössä. Opikselija on valmistautunut laboratorioihin ja työskentelee itsenäisesti. Opiskelija osaa tulkita tuloksia.

Opiskelija ymmärtää betonin osa-aineiden vaikutuksen betonin ominaisuuksiin. Opikselija työskentelee aktiivisesti laboratorioharjoituksissa.
