Objective

The aim of the course is to become familiar with the basics of piping design and the legislation, guidelines and standards affecting the design. The student knows the different stages of piping design and piping projects and identifies the essential factors affecting piping design. The student gets to know the different piping drawings and knows what they are used for. Students will become familiar with the most common pumps, pump dimensioning, as well as other piping equipment and basics of flow engineering.

Materials

Material to be given during the course, as well as various standards, planning guidelines and regulations by the authorities, and laws and regulations that guide operations.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

The students are able to plan a pipeline system with necessary its necessary supports and to select suitable components and pumps for the system.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

The students are able to draw isometric diagrams of pipes and do technical flow calculations to determine the size of pipes and pipelines.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

The students are able to interpret drawings of pipelines and are familiar with the most common components of a pipeline as well as the principles of operation of pumps. They are aware of the official regulations and procedures concerning the use of pressure vessels.
