Objective

Students will know the main summer and winter activities and their demands as forms of nature sports. They will be proficient in assessing and classifying such activities in Finland and the main competing countries using quality criteria. They will be able to assess whether such activities can take place in different conditions. They will be proficient map readers, being also able to use satellite positioning and a compass while moving in terrain, and to select suitable maps. They will be conversant in using route classifications, being able to plan routes based on such classifications and to select the right equipment for various nature and sports activities.

Content

Activities competence (e.g. some of the following: different forms of skiing, snowshoeing, snow building, hiking, canoeing, cycling, climbing)

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

The students are able to compare how different activities can be carried out in different conditions for different customer groups. They are able to take the needs of different customer groups into account when moving about in nature and changing plans mid-excursion.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

The students are able to assess and classify summer and winter activities based on quality criteria both in Finland and the main countries that compete with Finland. The students are able select maps suitable for different purposes. They are able to utilise route classifications and can plan routes based on such classification. The students are able to tell customers about the equipment needed for various nature and exercise activities.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

The student recognises the main summer and winter activities and their demands as outward bound activities. They know how to use a map, satellite positioning (GPS) and a compass in the field. They are able to select appropriate equipment for various nature and exercise activities.
