General information
- Credits
- 3 cr
Objective
Students will gain a proficiency in chemistry enabling them to understand chemical reactions and rules and chemical processes in industry.
Content
Chemical elements and periodic table
Quantity of material (mass) and concentration
Chemical equations and energy
Acids and alkalis and the PH values of their solutions
Electrolysis as a method of producing and coating metals
Corrosion and its prevention
Dangerous materials and their safety regulations
Assessment criteria, excellent (5)
Using the periodic table and known compounds, the students are able construct chemical equations for known chemical reactions and, using the equation, to calculate the amounts, masses and volumes of materials present in the reaction. They are able to calculate PH values using chemical equations and the masses of substances created as a result of electrolysis.
Assessment criteria, good (3)
The students are able to calculate produced amounts, masses and volumes of substances using a chemical equation. They are able to calculate the PH values of solutions using chemical equations and the masses of substances created as a result of electrolysis.
Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)
The students understand the concept of mass and can use the periodic system to calculate the amount of substances in compounds. They understand the significance of chemical equations and the concept of PH as well as how electrolysis occurs.
