The Basics of Computer Aided NC ProgrammingLaajuus (3 cr)

Course unit code: TKAC014

General information

Credits
3 cr

Objective

Students will know how to use CAD 3D applications and to programme machining paths based on generated geometry in order to produce NC programmes for numerically controlled machining tools.

Content

Stages of computer aided NC programming
Transfer of data from the design system to the NC programming system
Creating 2D machining paths
Simulation
Subfile and post processor processing
Testing the produced NC programme with an NC machine

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

The students are proficient to a high standard in the basic terms and stages of computer aided NC programming. They are able to compile machining paths independently for more complex parts. The students are able to select tools and calculate machining values reliably. They are able to analyse whether the produced NC programme is correct and can check the results of their work. The students are able to work so that the NC programme can be reliably transferred to the NC device for piece machining.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

The students are proficient to a high standard in the basic terms and stages of computer aided NC programming. They are able to compile machining paths independently for simple parts and for more complex parts with help. The students are able to select tools and calculate machining values. They are able to analyse whether the produced NC programme is correct and can check the results of their work.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

The students are proficient in the basic terms and stages of computer aided NC programming. They are able to compile machining paths with guidance or as a member of a group for simple parts and are able to select tools and calculate machining values.
