Objective

Students will be able to carry out common geotechnical calculations and understand earth embankment construction, operation and maintenance principles.

Defining the load bearing capacity, earth pressure and set of the ground
Stability examination
Embankments/earth damns

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

The students are able to assess the reliability of geotechnical calculations and the dependencies between studies conducted on the site of the foundation and apply their expertise to deal with exceptional on site conditions.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

The students are able to conduct geotechnical calculations concerning terrain load-bearing capacity, pressure and set based on information gathered under normal circumstances beforehand. They are also able to identify the limitations of various calculations.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

The students are familiar with the construction, operational and maintenance of embankments/earth damns. They know the general principles of geotechnical calculations.
