Objective

Students will be able to work as coordinators between process designers and house technology planners during the planning stage and in foreman positions associated with house technology installations during the building stage. They will understand the principles of network dimensioning, location and construction.

Content

Local heating networks for buildings and processes
Water pipe networks
Sewerage/waste water networks
Rain water drain networks
Industrial process pipelines located in the terrain
Preventing chemical leaks
How equalizing basins work

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

The students are familiar with the Water Act and water station hygiene regulations (surface and ground water), networks to be built in an area (domestic water pipes and drains, rain water drains, district heating pipelines), sewerage and rain water handling and purification methods. They are able to use parts of the Building Regulations of Finland collection as required - D1 (water and sewerage), D5 (energy efficiency, heating) as required to interpret existing drawings and calculations. They are able to measure pipelines and select pipeline materials cost effectively and can apply their acquired knowledge to demanding problems and to select the devices/pipelines for various systems taking environmental conditions and end uses into account.
