Objective

The students will form a perspective of the process involved in nursing and rehabilitating a neurological patient and the role of the nurse in this process. They will be able to describe the what theoretical competence and practical skills are needed in nursing neurological patients. The students will gain an overall picture of the planning, implementation and assessment of applying patient assets-based nursing with a neurological patient.

Content

- Falling ill with a neurological disease
- Description of a neurological disease and its progress and medical treatment guidelines
- asset-based nursing interventions and rehabilitative approach during the different stages of the illness (acute, convalescence and rehabilitation/early stages and later stages)
- Support interventions for neurological patients: social support, rehabilitation: physical, psychological, social and professional
- cooperation between the nurse and other professional groups and relatives during the patients recovery and rehabilitation process
- Competence requirements of neurological nursing
