Objective

The students recognize the values and ethical principles of nursing.
The students recognize the ethical instructions for practising as a nurse and can describe how they are put into practice.
The students recognize the importance of scientific knowledge in decision-making.
They can describe the concept of evidence based practice and its significance in social and health care.
The students recognize patient safety in the care process.

Content

Autonomy, the right to autonomy and restricting autonomy
Holistic human understanding as a point of departure in nursing
Nursing values, ethical principles and instructions
Key theories of ethics: virtue, consequentialism, duty
Equal and fair treatment and services
Identification of ethical problems and dealing with them:
Collegiality
Professional growth and development
Nursing as a multidisciplinary practice
Multiple disciplines in practice as a concept
The importance of nursing sciences in nursing
The key concepts of nursing science
EBP concept
Preventing deviations in safety hazardous situations and identifying risks
The different areas of patient safety; device, intervention and medication safety
The duty to disclose and report hazardous and disadvantageous situations
Patient safety culture
