Objective

The students will be able to explain the concept, aims and operational environment of gerontological nursing. They will be able to take the special features of the elderly into account and can support their physical and mental resources and participation in service guidance and nursing. The students will deepen their expertise and decision-making competence based on the theory of gerontological nursing and can work in different operational environments in a multi-professional team.

Ethical issues and value base of gerontological nursing
The aging process
Overall health and wellbeing promotion and supporting quality of life in gerontological nursing
Solutions that support living at home, preventive home visits, assessing access, technology for the aged
Pharmacological competence in nursing the elderly
Instruction and teaching competence in gerontological nursing (medication, healthy exercise, nutrition, supporting mental health, social networks)
Palliative/hospice care competence
The responsibility and decision-making competence of the nurse in the different operational environments of gerontological nursing
