Objective

The students will be able to explain the main concepts of tourism (tourism, tourist, forms of tourism, activity tourism) and how sustainable development is connected with tourism. They will know the main points of the history of tourism and how to classify push and pull attractions as well as being able to recognise the main tourism areas of Kainuu, Finland and Europe. Students can recognise different tourist segments being able to classify tourists according to theoretical models. They will be able to define the main features of activity tourism products and services. Using a tourism cluster, students will be able to explain how the field of tourism is connected with other sectors and the regional economic significance of tourism. Students will understand the significance of different levels of networks in tourism, being able to list the main actors in Finland and around the world and their main functions.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

The students understand and can name and describe basic tourism concepts, departure areas, routes and destinations and push and pull attraction factors to a high degree of excellency. They are also able to profile tourists well and motivating factors in tourism. They are experts in tourism products, services and central organisations, possessing a high degree of awareness of the economic significance of tourism. The students can work smoothly in various learning and operational environments, and as part of a group, promoting and developing the group's activities. They are able to analyse critically various tourism phenomena.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

The students understand and can name and describe basic tourism concepts, departure areas, routes and destinations and push and pull attraction factors very well. They are also able to profile tourists well and describe motivating factors in tourism. They know tourism products, services, central organisations, and the economic significance of tourism well. The students can work smoothly in various learning and operational environments, and as part of a group, working to reach the group's targets.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

The students understand and can name and describe basic tourism concepts, departure areas, routes and destinations and push and pull attraction factors to a satisfactory level. They are also able to profile tourists to a satisfactory level and motivating factors in tourism. They know tourism products, services and central organisations, and the economic significance of tourism superficially. The students can work under supervision in various learning and operational environments, and as part of a group, taking the other group members into consideration.
