Objective

Mechanical and production engineering students will develop their intercultural competence so that they are able to recognise cultural differences, understand them and adapt their communication style as required. They will apply their international communication competence and deepen their abilities to work in international and multicultural working life situations involving spoken and written interaction in English.

Materials

Course material

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

The students know the main theories and principles of intercultural communication.
They are able to discuss and write about field-related themes using the correct terminology.
Their pronunciation and intonation are clear.
They are able to plan and implement a comprehensive and natural presentation on a topic related to their field including cultural aspects.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

The students are able to recognise some of the main theories and principles of intercultural communication. They are able to recognise and use basic terminology of business in the field.
Pronunciation and intonation are, to some extent clear, though contain errors.
The students are able to plan and implement a mediocre presentation on a topic related to their field including cultural aspects.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

The students are able to recognise the basic terminology of the field.
Can communicate on intercultural issues in writing and orally to some degree.
Pronunciation and intonation are weak.
They are able to deliver an understandable presentation with help and time to prepare on the given topic, often reading.

Execution methods

Active participation and completing course assignments.
Differentiation is possible in some tasks.
