Objective
Objectives: Public health nursing graduates will know
- how to guide and support clients in matters related to family relationships and planning
- how to plan, implement, and assess the health, well-being, and resource monitoring and reinforcement of families expecting a child in collaboration with them
- how to evaluate the health of the expectant mother and her foetus and identify the risk factors associated with pregnancy and childbirth and, if necessary, refer the mother to treatment
- how to implement care during childbirth and in case of sudden birth
- how to design, implement and evaluate the support needed by the new born child and his / her family and how to strengthen inclusion
Content
Maternity care system
- Family planning, sexual and reproductive health
- Family coaching, supporting parenthood, supporting motherhood, paternity and couples’ relationships
- Health Check, screening, health advice and guidance for expectant and nursing mothers and their families
- Pregnancy risk factors and their identification and referral to treatment, special support and follow-up needs
- The stages of childbirth, sudden birth and follow-up
- Early interaction and support

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)
The students know how to analyse, compare, combine and select information and can present alternative procedures. They are able to work independently, responsibly, with initiative and flexibly in every type of learning and operational environment. The students are proficient in selecting and critically assessing the techniques and models of public health nursing. They can work as part of a team promoting and developing the team's work.
Assessment criteria, good (3)
The students are able to select appropriate procedures based on acquired knowledge and guidance. They are able to reflect upon and assess their own abilities and the practices of public health nursing. They can apply public health nursing practices as required. The students can work as members of teams to achieve the team's common goals. They can also justify their actions according to professional ethical principles.
Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)
The students are able to work in an appropriate manner though a certain amount of uncertainty is apparent. The students are able to work under supervision in different learning and operational environments using public health nursing practices as required. The students can work as a member of a team taking other members of the team into consideration. Their work complies with professional ethical principles.
