Objective

The aim of the course is to introduce the student to new technologies, business opportunities created by them and to learn the terminology and history of new technologies. The student is able to apply new technologies in his / her field of study and to recognize their special features. Students will get an overview of the current state of technology and future opportunities.

Materials

Course material will be presented on Moodle.

Teaching methods

Course topics are covered during contact teaching, containing theory lectures, classroom tasks and groupwork/small projects. At the end of the course period there is a theory exam and a gradable assignment (such as an essay).

Exam schedules

Exam and assignment dates/deadlines are decided during the beginning of the course period.

Completion alternatives

Recognition of previously acquired competence can be possible with relevant work experience or previous studies. Contact the course teacher for more information.

Arviointikriteerit, kiitettävä (5)

The student is able to critically analyse use cases for new technologies and develop creative new business ideas. The innovation project has been developed with care and is backed by research, showcasing a creative use of new technology. The student has participated actively in the course workshop lectures.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

The student understands the working principles of different new technologies and the changes they have caused in the business world and our social environment. The innovation project is based on already existing development and has been reasonably justified. The student has participated in the course workshop lectures.

Arviointikriteerit, tyydyttävä (1)

The student is able to explain different new technologies as a concept and to find existing use cases for them. The innovation project is a report of an existing technology concept. The student has occasionally participated in the course workshop lectures.

Assessment methods and criteria

Points to pass: 50% (grade 1). 60% = 2, 70% = 3...

Theory exam: 50% of total points
Gradeable assignment: 50% of total points

Attendance +1% per lesson.

The student is able to solve problems using applicable new technologies in their field and shows knowledge and understanding of new technologies' impact on the business environment. The student has completed both the exam and gradeable course assignment.

The student is able to describe the course topics (different new technologies) and give examples of how they're used and how they enable new business opportunities. The student has completed both the exam and gradeable course assignment.

The student is able to demonstrate their knowledge on course topics but with some topics lacking in depth and/or understanding. The student has completed both the exam and gradeable course assignment.
