Objective

The student can complete the course either in the role of an athlete or a coach.

If the student is selected to the sports academy coaching group and trains systematically according to the requirements of competitive sports, they can choose to complete the course as described for that purpose.

If the student wants to develop and deepen their coaching expertise and is accepted into the academy coaching group, they can complete the course as outlined in the descriptions.

AS AN ATHLETE:
• Understands the service offerings of the local sports academy and can negotiate different forms of services that are more beneficial to themselves if needed.
• Can negotiate solutions for combining sports and studies well in advance with both the educational institution and the sports academy stakeholders.
• Recognizes the requirements of harmonizing a professional and sports career, sets goals, and develops a plan for advancing both careers.
• Can engage in systematic activities in their studies and sports training.
• Can provide constructive feedback to the educational institution and the sports academy.

AS A COACH:
• Identifies the requirements of sports coaching expertise and can set goals and develop a plan for advancing the coaching career.
• Can engage in systematic activities in their studies and sports coaching.
• Can provide constructive feedback to athletes.

Content

AS AN ATHLETE:
• Participation in events organized by the sports academy and in the kick-off discussion.
• Creating a personal training plan and maintaining a coaching diary.
• Developing a personalized study plan that takes into account sports coaching.
• Participating in coaching sessions.

AS A COACH:
• Participation in events organized by the sports academy and in the kick-off discussion.
• Planning coaching sessions and maintaining a coaching diary.
• Coaching at Vuokatti-Ruka Sports Academy training sessions for one semester (2nd spring semester) three times a week.
• Recording the hours spent on coaching and obtaining approval from the academy coach (5 credits = 125-135 hours of student work, including planning, meetings, and implementation).
• Describing the development of one's own expertise in the form of a report (approved by the Sports Academy Coach).

For whom are the studies intended?

As an Athlete:

The student has been selected as a student at Vuokatti-Ruka Sports Academy (selected by VRU).
The student is a degree student at Kajaani University of Applied Sciences.
As a Coach:

The student is a degree student in Sports and Exercise at Kajaani University of Applied Sciences.
The student has completed the second-year fall coaching studies (Coaching Theory, Strength and Endurance Training, Muscle Maintenance, Nutrition) and has been selected.
Objective of the Studies

As an Athlete:

For students with athlete status, there is an opportunity to integrate the coaching expertise gained in sports training into university studies.
The student receives agreed-upon flexibility to combine competitive sports and studies.
As a Coach:

For students interested in developing coaching expertise, there is an opportunity to enhance and deepen practical coaching skills in a professional work environment.
