Objective

Students will have basic knowledge of the properties of steel concrete structures while being proficient in the dimensioning of common concrete structures.

Content

Introduction to steel concrete structure design and dimensioning.
Dimensioning concrete beam and slab structures.
Dimensioning concrete pillar and wall structures
Dimensioning of foundation structures.

Evaluation scale

0 - 5

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

The students are able to describe the design principles of load-bearing structures and to determine the loads that the structures will bear. They can dimension the tensile and shear reinforcement of a single-span beam in ultimate limit state and a bent and pressed pillar.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

The students know the design principles for planning load-bearing structures and can determine the loads and load combinations of a building and its structures. They are able to explain the impact of the building's stiffening principle on the dimensioned model. They can plan and dimension the tensile and shear reinforcement of a multi ported beam and slab structure in ultimate limit state and the reinforcement of a bent and pressed pillar and the reinforcements for walls and basic structures. The students are familiar with the principles of service limit state dimensioning. They are able to choose the concrete element structures for a hall building.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

The students are able to use calculation methods in the structural planning of steel concrete structures with expertise. They are able to define the main points of the problems to be solved and apply acquired knowledge to solve similar problems.

Prerequisites

Statics and Strength of Materials
