Objective
The students will be able to explain the main concepts of tourism (tourism, tourist, forms of tourism) and how sustainable development is connected with tourism. They will know the main points of the history of tourism and how to classify push and pull attractions as well as being able to recognise the main tourism areas of Kainuu, Finland and Europe. Students can recognise different tourist segments being able to classify tourists according to theoretical models. They will be able to define the main features of activity tourism products and services. Using a tourism cluster, students will be able to explain how the field of tourism is connected with other sectors and the regional economic significance of tourism. Students will understand the significance of different levels of networks in tourism, being able to list the main actors in Finland and around the world and their main functions.

The students understand and are able to name and describe excellently and expertly the basic concepts of tourism, areas of departure, routes and destination areas and tourism push and pull factors. They are able to expertly describe a portrait of a tourist and motivation factors in tourism. They are experts in tourism products and services and the main tourism organisations and the economic significance of tourism. They are able to work to an excellent standard in different learning and operational environments. In addition, they are able to work as group members promoting and developing the group's activities to attain common goals. They are able to critically analyse trends and phenomena in the field of tourism.
Assessment criteria, good (3)
The students understand and are able to name and describe well the basic concepts of tourism, areas of departure, routes and destination areas and tourism push and pull factors. They are able to describe well a portrait of a tourist and motivation factors in tourism. They have good knowledge of tourism products and services and the main tourism organisations and the economic significance of tourism. They are able to work well in different learning and operational environments. In addition, they are able to work as group members promoting and developing the group's activities to attain common goals.
Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)
The students understand and are able to name and describe to a satisfactory degree the basic concepts of tourism, areas of departure, routes and destination areas and tourism push and pull factors. They are able to describe to a satisfactory degree, a portrait of a tourist and motivation factors in tourism. They have perfunctory knowledge of tourism products and services and the main tourism organisations and the economic significance of tourism. They are able to work as required under supervision in different learning and operational environments. In addition, they are able to work as group members taking other members of the group into account.
