Objective
The students will have a basic knowledge of the parts used in the construction of buildings, the load-bearing frame and supplementary building parts, their functional properties and building methods and fire safety and sound engineering planning. They will know the main markings used in construction drawings and can read building, planning and structural drawings and the most common HPACE drawing markings.
Content
Parts of the building frame (grouped according to parts)
Different types of frames and how they work
Loads borne by the building frame
Fire safety and sound insulation
Civic shelters
The most common materials for the building frame and additional building parts
Construction management in Finland
Evaluation scale
0 - 5
Assessment criteria, excellent (5)
The student knows the building components and supplementary structures and their operating principles. Knows how forces in different directions affect building parts and their design and construction. The student knows the most important properties and applications of the most used building materials from the point of view of construction and the building's life cycle. Can figure out which building materials make up an energy-efficient and environmentally friendly building.
The student knows fire classifications and regulations and knows how construction is controlled in Finland.
Assessment criteria, good (3)
The students perceive the order in which a building frame is constructed and how it stiffens during construction. They are familiar with methods of stiffening the building frame of a house and stiffening materials. They are able to choose the cheapest and most suitable stiffening methods and materials. They know the official fire-proofing requirements for load-bearing structures.
Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)
The students are familiar with the different parts of the building frame and related structures. They are familiar with the building materials of different types of frame. They know how forces pulling in different directions impact the overall rigidity of a building. They are familiar with the fire classifications of building materials and the reasons for such classification.
