Objective

• The student understands the overall concept of foster care and the principles of corrective child protection, for example, in relation to family work.
• The student comprehends the legal implications of custody and the child’s legal status in foster care.
• The student understands the obligations and limitations related to the implementation of foster care.
• The student understands the use of a trauma-informed approach when working with a placed child and their family.
• The student recognizes the challenges related to stabilizing the life of child in custody and can utilize rehabilitative working methods.

Content

• The overall concept of foster care and the related legislation
• The status and rights of a child in foster care
• Stabilization and rehabilitation of the child, as well as restrictive measures in foster care
• Trauma-informed approach in child protection
• Practices of corrective child protection

Location and time

The course will take place from January 1, 2025, to May 31, 2025.

Teaching methods

Independent online study, lectures, assignments

Additionally, webinar teaching (Teams); February 24, 2025, March 24, 2025, and April 9, 2025, from 14:30 to 16:00.

Learning diary: All course assignments are recorded in the learning diary (note, assessment 0-5).

Discussion areas: The course includes discussion areas, and participation in discussions is part of the course completion.
