Objective

Student will develop his/her ability to operate in a Finnish studying and communication environment. The course is highly recommended for all international Students.

Content

Language skills needed in studying and working in Finnish environment. Getting to know the content of YKI.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

Student can communicate successfully in Finnish when visiting public agencies and offices. He/she can take part in conversations about familiar topics. Student knows some set phrases. He/she understands the main idea and some details in longer Texts like menus, advertisements, timetables and emails. Student can infer the meaning of unknown word from the context. He/she can write a short description about events and experiences.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

Student can follow simple conversation about topics, that are close to him/her. He/she understands the core content of short messages like proclamations or instructions. Student can describe his/her surroundings shortly and gets along in everyday service situations. Student understands short written news and operating directions. He/she can find single information in a two-chapter text. Student writes short notes and list like descriptions about own experiences.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

Student can recognize the Topic of simple conversations. He/she can express him-/herself in everyday service situations. Student can understand short notes and instructions well. Student can find answers to questions in short texts. He/she manages basic vocabulary and phrases and can write short texts about concrete needs.
