Objective

Students will be competent in physics required in other courses organised in the school of engineering.

Execution methods

Lectures and calculation exercises.

Accomplishment methods

The course includes lectures and calculation exercises. Teaching is mainly organized as face-to-face teaching. Passing the course requires active calculation exercises and midterm exams/final exams. The course contains approx. 135 hours of student work. A more detailed course description is presented in the course implementation plan.

Content

Quantities and unit systems of physics
Motion theory, motion power theory
Work, power and energy
Linear momentum and quantity of motion
Circular and spinning motion
The mechanics of fluids and gases

Materials

We will announce it during the course.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

The students recognise mechanical quantities and units. The students are able to find suitable equations for solving mechanical problems and are proficient in using the required linear equations to solve them.
A satisfactory level requires that approximately 50 - 60% of the maximum points in the exam are obtained.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

The students are able to draw conclusions from the mechanical problems. They are able to divide problem solving into suitable parts and do secondary level equations and systems of equations.
A good level requires that you get about 70 - 80% of the maximum points in the exam

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

The students are able to analyse mechanical problems and produce alternative methods of solving them.
A commendable level requires that you get more than 90% of the maximum points in the exam.
