Teaching methods
The course is primarily delivered through contact teaching. Throughout the course, group work, independent study tasks, and the planning and delivery of a presentation are included. Vocabulary and language use in a range of situations are practiced through guided exercises. The course concludes with a final assessment.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)
The student understands and can shortly respond to simple Questions about personal topics. He/she can follow slow conversations with support. The student can read short Texts in clear and familiar Contexts. He/she can write short Texts using basic vocabulary and phrases.
Assessment criteria, good (3)
The student understands simple spoken and written messages, eg. Questions, Requests or Prohibitions. He/she can follow slow conversations about familiar topics. The student can recognize essential information in short Texts. He/she is able to communicate in day-to-day situations in written Finnish, eg. e-mail, personal data.
Assessment criteria, excellent (5)
The Student can follow conversations about familiar topics and understand the main idea of eg. TV news. He/she gets along in simple social and service situations. The Student can write short notes and use basic grammar adequately.
