Objective

The student will learn the fundamentals of common manufacturing methods, get acquainted with the machines and tools used in these methods, and understand the structures and operating principles of NC (Numerical Control) machines. The student will achieve the ability to identify and select appropriate machining methods for different products and manufacturing situations.

Content

The course covers basic knowledge of mechanical manufacturing methods, the operating principles of NC machines, fundamentals of sheet metal work, and the basics of welding. It also discusses the selection of various tools and machines in the manufacturing process.

Materials

The course materials and lecture slide package are available on the course platform. The course material includes selected chapters from various books and articles that deal with manufacturing technology and machine shop technology. A detailed list will be announced at the beginning of the course.

Evaluation scale

0 - 5

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

A deep understanding of manufacturing methods, the ability to apply knowledge in practice, excellent knowledge of NC machines and sheet metal techniques.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

Good understanding of manufacturing methods, operation of NC machines, and sheet metal techniques.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

Basic knowledge of manufacturing methods, NC machines, and sheet metal work.

Prerequisites

Basic knowledge in the areas of mechanics and materials science.

Further information

Participation in the course requires basic IT skills and the ability to work in a group.
