Objective

The student:
Can identify the need for palliative care or end-of-life care for a patient.
Can create an end-of-life care plan in collaboration with the patient, their loved ones, the attending physician, and other members of the multidisciplinary team.
Can implement symptomatic and humane palliative care and end-of-life care.
Can encounter and care for a dying patient and support their loved ones.
Can use various methods to support the psychosocial and spiritual needs of the patient and their loved ones.

Comprehensive symptom management in palliative care and end-of-life care

Knows the laws and recommendations that guide palliative care and end-of-life care.
Understands the significance of an anticipatory care plan for the end of life in palliative care.
Knows the levels of care and the service system for palliative care and can describe where to get expert help.
Recognizes the need for palliative care and end-of-life care.
Knows the symptom management for the most common symptoms of palliative and end-of-life care patients.
Knows the methods of psychosocial and existential support and their importance in nursing.
Knows the signs of approaching death.
Understands the importance of respectful encounters in nursing.
