Objective

The students are able to apply the theory and legal regulations of health promotion and a variety of health promotion methods in the design, implementation and assessment of health promotion activities for individuals and the community. The students will be able to utilize new technology to provide guidance and advice.

The students will know the philosophical, ethical and pedagogical theory of instruction and teaching and how they work in practice.
National Health and Wellbeing 1cr
The students will be able to explain and assess the importance of health promotion in maintaining the wellbeing and health of the population, in disease prevention, and in narrowing the gap in health differences.

Instruction and Subject Content Areas in Health 2cr
They will be able to plan, implement and assess instruction and teaching in a customer and group-oriented manner in cooperation with other experts. The students will be able to use customer-centred teaching and instruction method and materials as required. The students will be able to plan, implement and assess health and physical capability promotion interventions with individuals, groups and communities using networks with different professionals and specialists.

Accomplishment methods

Opintojaksojen Ohjaaminen terveyden edistämisessä, päihteet ja päihteettömyys, seksuaaliterveys, ravitsemus ja terveysliikunta yhteisenä suorituksena on tehtävä: opetustapahtuman suunnittelu, toteutus ja arviointi.

Content

National Health and Wellbeing 1cr
Definitions of health promotion, key concepts, health promotion legislation, strategies, programs and international and national recommendations.
Smoking and non-smoking 1 cr
The students will understand the importance of how abstaining from substance abuse promotes health and well-being.
Nutrition 2 cr.
The students will understand the importance of nutrition in promoting health and treating diseases. The students can explain the principles and practical implementation of health-promoting diets.
Health-promoting Exercise 2 cr.
The students will understand the importance of exercise in promoting health and treating diseases. The students will be able to explain the principles of health-promoting exercise and will master exercise counselling work processes.
Vaccination expertise 2 cr.
The students will possess knowledge of diseases prevented by vaccination, understand the benefits of vaccination and know where to find reliable information on the possible side effects of vaccination. The students will learn to guide and support customers in making vaccination decisions using research-based knowledge. The students will learn what to take into account before, during and after vaccination. They will acquire the competence to provide a high-quality vaccination service.

• work under supervision in various learning and operating environments appropriately
• use the techniques and models of the professional field

• work in accordance with professional ethical principles

Assessment criteria, good (3)

In accordance with competence attainment targets, the students are able to:

Knowledge:
• consistently use the concepts of their professional field
• name, describe and justify the basic knowledge of their profession
Skills:
• choose appropriate practices based on the information and guidance they acquire
• evaluate and reflect on their own skills and working practices
• work independently and responsibly in various roles in respective learning and operational environments
• apply appropriate techniques and models suitable for the professional field

Attitudes:
• work professionally in customer situations
• work as team members to achieve the common goals
• justify their activities in accordance with the principles of professional ethics

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

In accordance with competence attainment targets, the students are able to:

Knowledge:
• use the concepts of their profession with expertise and comprehensively and integrate them to form a larger knowledge base

Skills:
• analyse, compare, combine and select information, and present alternative approaches
• analyse, reflect upon, and critically evaluate their own competence and professional practices using acquired knowledge
• work independently, responsibly, proactively and flexibly in respective learning and operational environments
• select and critically evaluate the techniques and models of their chosen profession and use them in their work

Attitudes:
• to work in a customer-oriented, goal and development-oriented manner
• work as a member of team, promoting and developing the team’s activities

Assessment criteria, approved/failed

Pass:
The students must write an essay demonstrating the ability to think independently, and to analyse and integrate knowledge. The students will be aware of the importance of various national health programs and strategies in municipal health promotion. The layout of the essay must correspond to instructions given and all sources must be correctly referenced.
Fail:
The essay demonstrates that the students have conducted a superficial examination of health promotion, health promotion strategies and programs. The descriptions given are summaries which lack evidence of reflection and reasoning. layout of the essay does not correspond to the instructions given and the source references are incomplete.

Vaccination expertise 2cr
The assessment criteria are in accordance with those of the nationwide online course.






Fail:
Knowledge:
• are not able to use the key / individual concepts of their professional field approåriately
• are not able to name and describe the basic knowledge of the profession

Skills:
• are not able to work in an appropriate manner
• are not able to work as required in different learning and operational environments
• are not able to appropriately use the techniques and models of their professional field

Attitudes:
• the students fail to take customers into account in their work
• the students are not able to work as a member of a team
• the students are not able to take other members of a team into account
• the students fail to work in accordance with the principles of professional ethics
