Objective

The students will understand the structure and functions of the human body for the purposes of using this knowledge in their work as sports instructors, in health promotion and in strengthening sports and exercise behaviour.

Students will gain basic knowledge of changes in the functions of the human body as it moves from a state of rest to maximal intensity.

The students will master muscle strengthening and stretching exercises, and will be able to provide muscle care instruction to customers as well as changing basic drills to match work load when instructing different exercise groups. They will be able to conduct functional mobility tests and can identify the central contents of functional training.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

The students are proficient in the content of the main themes and they know the structure of the locomotor, respiratory and circulatory systems and how they function. However, they lack awareness of how the body’s different organ systems affect each other. They have mastered the basic measurements of bodily functions but need to improve how they interpret the results and analyse body state, as well as how they master the small details of such analyses. However, they have enough knowledge and information to work with customers.

The students are comprehensively proficient in the impacts of exercise and physical stress on the basic functions of the body, particularly the functions of the locomotor system, respiration and blood circulation organs. They know how the nervous-muscular system works to regulate power generation, the principles of how the oxygen-carrying system, energy generation and heat regulation mechanisms work and how training affects them as a whole. They are proficient in conducting basic measurements in these areas but may not be able to analyse the results accurately enough from the point of view of training.

The students can identify the different methods of muscle care and muscle fitness training. The students are able to use muscle strengthening and stretching exercises when instructing customer groups but their work is unoriginal. They are able to identify the main elements of functional training.

The students are able to work as members of a team and take responsibility for their own activities.

The students are proficient in the content of the main themes and they have a sound understanding of the functioning of the locomotor system, respiratory and circulatory system and how these are connected to the body’s regulatory systems. They have mastered the basic measurements of bodily functions but may need to improve their interpretation of the results and analysis of the state of the body. However, they are able to employ basic knowledge in a customer oriented manner.

Students know the impacts of exercise and physical stress on basic bodily functions in detail. They are proficient in the functions of the nervous-muscular system in generating strength combined with the oxygen carrying system, the actions of energy production and heat regulation mechanisms and how they are controlled and can conduct basic measurements in these areas and analyse the results, though they may not interpret them accurately enough to create suitable training programmes.

The students are able to use systematically, the different methods of muscle care and muscle fitness training and they can analyse and justify their choice of method. The students are able to use muscle strengthening and stretching exercises in a variety of ways and can apply content to match workload. They are able to apply functional training as a part of muscle care. The students are able to work as members of a group/team to achieve common goals according to professional ethical principles.

The students are highly proficient in the content of the main themes and understand the connection between the function of different organ systems and regulatory systems. They have mastered the basic measurements of bodily functions and how to interpret the results and can analyse the state of the body and apply this knowledge in a customer oriented manner.

They are proficient in the functions of the nervous-muscular system in generating strength combined with the oxygen carrying system, the actions of energy production and heat regulation mechanisms and how they are controlled and can conduct basic measurements in these areas and analyse the results, being able to interpret them correctly to create training programmes.

The students are able to use in a variety of ways, the different methods of muscle care and muscle fitness training with expertise and they can analyse and justify their choice of method. The students are able to use muscle strengthening and stretching exercises in a variety of ways and can apply content to match workload and to analyse and justify their choices. They are able to apply functional training in a variety of ways and with expertise as a part of muscle care. The students are able to work as members of a group/team, promoting and developing the work of the group according to professional ethical principles.
