Objective

The students are able to apply the theory and legal regulations of health promotion and a variety of health promotion methods in the design, implementation and assessment of health promotion activities for individuals and the community. The students will be able to utilize new technology to provide guidance and advice.

The students will know the philosophical, ethical and pedagogical theory of instruction and teaching and how they work in practice.
National Health and Wellbeing 1cr
The students will be able to explain and assess the importance of health promotion in maintaining the wellbeing and health of the population, in disease prevention, and in narrowing the gap in health differences.

Instruction and Subject Content Areas in Health 2cr
They will be able to plan, implement and assess instruction and teaching in a customer and group-oriented manner in cooperation with other experts. The students will be able to use customer-centred teaching and instruction method and materials as required. The students will be able to plan, implement and assess health and physical capability promotion interventions with individuals, groups and communities using networks with different professionals and specialists.

Content

National Health and Wellbeing 1cr
Definitions of health promotion, key concepts, health promotion legislation, strategies, programs and international and national recommendations.
Smoking and non-smoking 1 cr
The students will understand the importance of how abstaining from substance abuse promotes health and well-being.
Nutrition 2 cr.
The students will understand the importance of nutrition in promoting health and treating diseases. The students can explain the principles and practical implementation of health-promoting diets.
Health-promoting Exercise 2 cr.
The students will understand the importance of exercise in promoting health and treating diseases. The students will be able to explain the principles of health-promoting exercise and will master exercise counselling work processes.
Vaccination expertise 2 cr.
The students will possess knowledge of diseases prevented by vaccination, understand the benefits of vaccination and know where to find reliable information on the possible side effects of vaccination. The students will learn to guide and support customers in making vaccination decisions using research-based knowledge. The students will learn what to take into account before, during and after vaccination. They will acquire the competence to provide a high-quality vaccination service.

• justify their activities in accordance with the principles of professional ethics

• name and describe the basic knowledge of their profession

Skills:
• work appropriately, although still demonstrating some uncertainty
• work under supervision in various learning and operating environments appropriately
• use the techniques and models of the professional field

Attitudes:
• take customers into account
• work as a member of a team with consideration for other team members
• work in accordance with professional ethical principles

Assessment criteria, approved/failed

Pass:
The students must write an essay demonstrating the ability to think independently, and to analyse and integrate knowledge. The students will be aware of the importance of various national health programs and strategies in municipal health promotion. The layout of the essay must correspond to instructions given and all sources must be correctly referenced.
Fail:
The essay demonstrates that the students have conducted a superficial examination of health promotion, health promotion strategies and programs. The descriptions given are summaries which lack evidence of reflection and reasoning. layout of the essay does not correspond to the instructions given and the source references are incomplete.

Vaccination expertise 2cr
The assessment criteria are in accordance with those of the nationwide online course.

Ylläolevat opintojaksot toteutuvat osin lähiopetuksena ja osin verkko-opintoina.

Opintojaksojen läsnäolo sovitaan jokaisen opintojakson tunneilla.

Terveyden edistämisen 12 opintopisteen kokonaissuoritus edellyttää eri opintojaksoihin liittyvien yksilö- ja ryhmätehtävien / tentin suorittamista hyväksytysti.

Opintojaksot arvioidaan hyväksytty-hylätty tai numeroarvioinnilla. Arvioinneista sovitaan kunkin opintojakson alussa.
