Care and Rehabilitation of the Mentally Disabled (5cr)

Objective

Students will be able to judge the types of changes that the birth of a mentally disabled child may cause in a family and the impacts that the disabled child may have on the parents and siblings. The students will be able to plan, implement and assess the safe and health promoting nursing of a mentally disabled child taking into account the special characteristics of a mentally disabled child's or young person's growth and development. The students will be able to provide support and guidance to parents in the growth and development of their mentally disabled child/young person and can help parents in their application for different types of benefits.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

The students are able to assess the risks that could threaten the development of good parenting. They know how to use and apply their previous knowledge and skills base to the planning, implementation and assessment of nursing mentally disabled children and young people. (see Family Nursing and Paediatric Nursing assessment criteria)

Assessment criteria, good (3)

The students are able to explain the significance of nursing interventions used in nursing mentally disabled children and young people in terms of ensuring the growth and development of such patients. They are aware of the factors threatening the parenthood of parents of mentally disabled children and find ways to support such parents.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

The students are able to name reasons for mental disability and they know the main features of the growth and development of a mentally disabled child. The students can recognise the special features of nursing and rehabilitating mentally disabled children and young people and can name the values and principles that arise in nursing the mentally disabled.

Opiskelija osaa arvioida riskitekijöitä, jotka voivat uhata riittävän hyvän vanhemmuuden kehittymisessä.
Opiskelija osaa käyttää ja soveltaa aikaisempaa tieto- taitoperustaansa kehitysvammaisen lapsen ja nuoren hoidon ja kuntoutuksen suunnittelussa, toteutuksessa ja arvioinnissa. ( ks perhehoitotyön lasten ja nuorten hoitotyön arviointikriteerit )

Hyvä (3-4):
Opiskelija osaa selittää kehitysvammisen lapsen ja nuoren hoitotyössä käytettävien hoitotyönmenetelmien merkitystä kehityvammaisen lapsen ja nuoren kasvun ja kehityksen turvaamisen näkökulmasta.
Opiskelija tietää kehitysvammaisen lapsen vanhempien vanhemmuutta uhkaavia tekijöitä ja löytää keinoja vanhemmuuden tukemiseen.

Tyydyttävä (1-2):
Opiskelija osaa nimetä kehitysvammaisuuteen liityviä syitä.
Opiskelija tietää kehitysvammaisen lapsen kasvun ja kehityksen pääpiirteet.
Opiskelija tunnistaa kehitysvammaisen lapsen ja perheen hoitotyön ja kuntoutuksen erityispiirteitä ja osaa nimetä kehitysvammaisten hoitotyössä ilmeneviä arvoja ja periaatteita.
