Objective

• To plan, implement and evaluate the health of the working population, the work place and the community as well as public health work maintaining and providing work capability rehabilitation
• To explain the principles of good occupational health care practice
• To assess the impact of work, work communities and environments on health
• To design, implement and evaluate the necessary measures proposed to promote the health of customers (individual, family, group, workplace, work community, or other community)
• To work in multi-professional work communities and networks

Content

• Occupational health care service system and its links with stakeholders
• Key legislation and policies on occupational health and safety, compensation practices
• Health checks for the working population and health and physical and mental capability maintenance, promotion and monitoring at different stages of the work career (including the unemployed)
• Principles of good occupational health care practice, working life awareness
• Planning, implementation and monitoring of occupational health cooperation based on workplace surveys
• Assessment and management of work capability, early support and rehabilitation
• Evaluation of health-related work conditions; identifying resources, exposure to health-related risks in the work environment and community, hazards and workload
• Key work-related illnesses and occupational diseases
• Occupational health and safety
• Occupational health promotion and monitoring of occupational well-being through multi-professional cooperation
• Occupational health care / Open nursing reception work

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

The students know how to analyse, compare, combine and select information and can present alternative procedures. They are able to work independently, responsibly, with initiative and flexibly in every type of learning and operational environment. The students are proficient in selecting and critically assessing the techniques and models of public health nursing. They can work as part of a team promoting and developing the team's work.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

The students are able to select appropriate procedures based on acquired knowledge and guidance. They are able to reflect upon and assess their own abilities and the practices of public health nursing. They can apply public health nursing practices as required. The students can work as members of teams to achieve the team's common goals. They can also justify their actions according to professional ethical principles.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

The students are able to work in an appropriate manner though a certain amount of uncertainty is apparent. The students are able to work under supervision in different learning and operational environments using public health nursing practices as required. The students can work as a member of a team taking other members of the team into consideration. Their work complies with professional ethical principles.
