General

The Kajaani University of Applied Sciences Information Systems competence area consists of degree education provision in Business Information Processing (Bachelor of Business Administration) and in Information and Communications Technology (Bachelor of Engineering) and it is part of the CEMIS center of expertise which amongst other objectives, aims to improve education, research and development, competitiveness, attractiveness, quality and impact. The Information and Communications Technology and Business Information Technology degrees contain certain similarities in educational content that will be delivered through jointly organised studies.

Students will be selected based on their study success, special interests and wishes to undertake either the Data Center Solutions or the Game Production major option during their first autumn.

DATA CENTER SOLUTIONS
The Data Center Solutions advanced (major) studies focus on the installation and control of hardware and operating systems, data networks and servers as well as maintenance, virtualization technologies and cloud services. Students will be able to work e.g. as system experts, operation/production managers or instructors.

GAMES
Within Advanced (major) Game studies students may choose from the following modules: game production and design, game graphics, game programming or game soundscapes. Game programming also prepares students for traditional programming work. Students will be able to work e.g. as software designers, game programmers, game designers, producers, game artists or instructors.

Annual Themes – Study Progress Description

1st yr.: Comprehensive IT competence.
Business information technology undergraduates studying for the Business Administration Bachelor’s degree will possess the ability to use a computer in their everyday work. The will be widely proficient in and capable of understanding the basic business concepts while being able to work and communicate in a group.

2nd yr.: Advanced IT competence.
Students will acquire the professional skills and knowledge of their chosen major. They can specialize in either datacenter solutions or the field of game production. They know how to utilize their team-work skills in their professional studies.

3rd yr.: Methodological IT Competence.
Students will gain practical expertise of their major and can use various methods of acquiring information, while being able to work in a team and to instruct others.

4th yr.: Applied IT competence.
Students will be able to apply acquired professional skills and knowledge in practice. They will be able to carry out a small-scale research and development assignment.

Information system competence the Business Administration graduate is able to
•understand information systems as a whole and their production, procurement and commissioning process, as well as the principles of information management from a business development point of view
•define, design, and test software, databases and user interfaces, taking into account security

•write and interpret documents e.g. for software maintenance
•design and implement training

ICT-infrastructure competence, the Business Administration graduate is able to
•understand the significance and operating principles of various network components (hardware and software components)
•utilize various networks and their components when creating solutions
•build and maintain basic computer network solutions
•take security into account within the organization's ICT infrastructure solutions

ICT project competence, the Business Administration Graduate is able to
•understand the nature of various ICT projects and project activity as a whole within the organization
